Split Rock Ruin

Split Rock Ruin is located on a high eastern shelf overlooking Largo Canyon. The pueblito was built on the top of a high boulder near the bench edige. The site is exposed and visbility is excellent. This site can be considered a good defensive structure.

There is a single spot on the clift below that has a rock "stair way" up to the ledge where the pueblito is located. From a vantage point on the hill behind the ruin you can see portions of the four masonary rooms. The pueblito occupies an area of 10 x 15 meters on the 10 meter tall rock.

Access to the puebilito is only via the crude ladder considting of the juniper branches leaned against the rock, and then climbing up the crack.
Notice the small hole in the pueblito strategicly located where you could shoot arrows at anybody undesirable climbing up the only access.

There are several other notable structures assocated with the Split Rock Pueblito including the remains of two fork stick hogans, a sweat lodge, hearths, and several middens. The hogan shown below is identifiable only by the radial pattern of the juniper branches that once supported the hogan.

The Split Rock Pueblito complex is in good condition although considerably reduced. None of the roofs in the pueblito remain and only a few timbers remain.
